LAURA HAVARD

I joined the Kitsap Community Food Co-op because I love the idea of keeping our food (and our dollars) local. I am a proud mom of 3 and wife. I bring over 20 years of accounting experience.

By day, I run Emerald Accounting Solutions, helping small businesses and nonprofits make sense of their finances. By heart, I care about supporting local farmers, connecting with the community, and being part of something that makes Kitsap a healthier, stronger community.

REBECCA HUMPHRIES

A Seattle native, I made the leap over to Kitsap County eight years ago, making my first home in Manette. Moving to Kitsap was one of the best things I’ve ever done! I now live in Southworth, but maintain close ties to Bremerton. As the Coop grows, I hope it will be useful to have the perspective of a resident of greater Kitsap County, who doesn’t live close to the Coop but is still interested in the mission and in shopping there. In south Kitsap County, I am living among the small working farms and local producers whom we want to work with and support. In the past five years I have become pretty obsessed with local food production, and particularly with humanely raised meat and dairy. It’s clear that it’s difficult for the average person to source healthy, local, and humane food, and that’s why organizations like the Kitsap Food Coop are so crucial for our community.

And, as Kitsap County continues to grow and grow, it’s so important to have a hub where people can access the incredible local food produced in our region. I hope the Kitsap Food Coop can be a place people seek out not only as a neighborhood store in Bremerton for daily and weekly shopping, but also as a reliable shopping destination for those who live further away.

I know the Coop already has excellent staff and volunteers and provides a friendly shopping experience. And now, the news that the Coop is shopping for a new location is so exciting! A welcoming location in a desirable area would really complete the picture and bring the Coop to a whole new level. I would be so honored to be a part of making that happen.

Professionally, I have a background in nonprofit development, real estate, and digital marketing, and I currently work as a project manager for Microsoft. I’m also a Kitsap County Stream Steward, and I care deeply about the health and sustainability of our local ecosystems.

TARA MCGINTY

I’ve been working in the nutrition and food system sector for over 15 years, including small-scale, organic agriculture; gardening and nutrition education; and even co-opening a small cooperative grocery store in rural Colorado, where I served in nearly every board position and later acted as general manager for 2 years.

I am deeply familiar with the struggles that come with running a cooperative grocery store, but am also incredibly passionate about everything that they stand for- uplifting local economies, building more resilient food systems, strengthening community fabric, and protecting power and autonomy over our food choices by creating alternative options to big ag and corporate grocers.

I would love to serve as member of the board of the Kitsap Community Food Co-Op. As a board member, I would strive to center the priorities of Kitsap County community members and to expand equitable access to the grocery store. I would prioritize further integrating the co-op into Kitsap County community through as many avenues as possible, including business networks, nutrition program partnerships, and grassroots community groups. And I would help facilitate the development of an updated business plan, working with the co-op board, its members, and the greater Kitsap County community to develop a clear vision for what the co-op is aiming to provide to the community, and how we plan to do it.

GREG MOYNIHAN

I have been an active supporter of the Bremerton community since moving here in 2007. One of my first projects was helping to launch the Bremerton Food Co-op, where I proudly became Member #1 and assisted with fundraising events. I am passionate about fostering local connections, supporting community initiatives, and contributing my time and skills to projects that strengthen our city.
