Re Co-op Website Updates

Check out the list below for a few of the great producers available at the Co-op, and remember that if you can’t find what you’re looking for with us, you can also get local farm products through Kitsap FreshFresh Food Revolution, and our local Farmer’s Markets.

Rainy Daze Brewing Company - Poulsbo

Word is making its way around – you might hear it whispered that there is “a mad scientist” producing some of the most uniquely flavored brews in the Northwest – akin to something out of a fiction novel. Fact is, Rainy Daze Brewing, under Montoney’s relentless pursuit of “flavoration”, is becoming a bit of a “rare-brew” cult following. Chalk it up to the addiction for perfection, or mad science, or magic mojo whatever you want to call it, Julia Child would understand. Perfection is never achieved until the chef is happy and Montoney’s his own hardest critic.

Dudes Donuts - Bremerton

FROG Soap - Bremerton

After filtering their locally sourced veggie oil to the nth degree they use it as an ingredient in all of their soap, shampoo and shaving cakes.

At present they have reclaimed and reused nearly 5 tons of material, the bulk of that being reclaimed French fryer oil (soy) and corrugated cardboard. Each bar of their earth-friendly soap represents a tad over a quarter pound of reclaimed material.

Roots Farm - Poulsbo

Roots Farm is a small farm in Poulsbo, that is grounded in the principles of environmental sensitivity. Roots Farm relies on heavy mulching, a permaculture method that decreases the need for watering. Soil cultivated with heavy mulching shows increased nutrient levels and is full of beneficial organisms, including mycorrhizae and other fungi, and earthworms. Their animals are rotated in fields and pastures for insect control, tilling and fertilizing - virtually eliminating the need for gas power implements.

Eleven Winery - Bainbridge Island

Matt and Sarah Albee settled on Bainbridge Island for its community and natural beauty more than as a sensible place to start a winery (because it wasn't). The first grapes were crushed in 2003, and the first whites were released in 2004.

Sustainability is very important to Eleven Winery, including recycling, using renewable and recyclable packaging, using sustainably-grown grapes, and offsetting our carbon output – in fact, we were the first carbon-neutral winery in Washington State.

Grounds for Change - Poulsbo

Grounds for Change is a family-owned and operated coffee roasting business that offers Fair Trade Coffee and Organic Coffee that is Carbon-Free Certified.

A number of community-based programs in coffee-growing countries directly benefit from the purchase of our coffee. For example, farmers in Peru receive a higher price per pound for their coffee (above and beyond the going rate for certified coffee) to help support local domestic violence intervention programs and small business loans for women.

Harvey's Butter Rum Batter - Bremerton

Harvey Hudson first created his special butter rum batter in 1952 while tending bar at a local Bremerton, Washington lounge. Since then, Harvey’s Butter Rum Batter has been providing a specialty mix used for making delicious drinks and other recipes. Our batter is made batch-by-batch, using real butter and other premium ingredients that give it the quality and unforgettable flavor our fans have always known. In the fall of 2014, Harvey’s purchased the Little River Candy Company out of Wenatchee, WA and added a new treat to our line.  Crisp and delicious, our toffee popcorn is like no other.

Quality, passion and of course tradition play a huge role in our teams mission of carrying on the legacy that Harvey Hudson started many years ago. Our fans keep us going and are the reason we do what we do. We sincerely thank you for making it so much fun!

The list is always changing. It changes with the seasons and it changes in response to the creativity of our partner farms and food producers, when we reap the rewards of a new crop they are trying or an idea that struck them in the kitchen.

Just remember that any time you shop the co-op you are shopping the best of what your Kitsap community has to offer.
