Can you bring world-class customer service to our small town store? We have an opening for a part-time Cashier to work at our store in Bremerton. Previous cash handling experience and excellent customer service skills required. This is a 15-20 hour/week position which will include evenings and weekends; a flexible schedule is required. CASHIER/STOCKER POSITION SUMMARY:
Wage: $15.74-16.50 /hour.
Reports to: Grocery Manager
JOB SUMMARY: To perform all cash register functions accurately and efficiently while emphasizing great customer service. To assist with general store maintenance and operations on an as-needed basis when not serving customers, including cleaning, stocking, and assisting with inventory.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Basic math skills, prior cash handling experience preferred
- Interest in natural foods & cooperatives
- Previous retail experience helpful
- Comprehend simple instructions, memos, training materials.
- Excellent communication skills; desire to provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to consistently be at work and on time.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Exhibit world class customer service at all times.
- Work cooperatively in all situations with staff and customers.
- Demonstrate high standards of ethics, honesty, trust, accountability and respect.
CASHIER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow all cash handling procedures.
- Follow proper check receiving procedures.
- Cashier will be expected to maintain the accuracy of their till within a +/- $3.00 range.
- Be proactive in greeting and assisting customers, responding promptly to customer needs.
- Gain a thorough understanding of the member/owner program in order to promote to customers.
- Manage difficult customer situations with objectivity, neutrality, and calmness.
- Always ‘go the extra mile’ to assist customers.
- Walk produce department at the beginning of every shift to identify and learn new produce codes.
- Comply with all State of Washington food handling sanitation and safety codes. Must be able to show proof of completing the food handling course.
- Clean, stock and detail Front End area with special attention to assigned register.
- Attend department meetings as required.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when shift begins.
- Observe safety and security procedures; report potentially unsafe conditions.
- Stay informed of store activities by reading management and marketing announcements.
- Use equipment and materials properly.
- Wear proper clothing during shift, adhering to standards as specified by the Kitsap Community Food Co-op Employee Handbook.
- Abide by all Co-op policies and procedures as specified in the Kitsap Community Food Co-op Employee Handbook.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Remain in stationary position while performing cashier duties.
- Ascend/Descend ladders.
- Frequent kneeling, stooping, squatting, bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Safely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Push/pull wheeled carts up to 150 pounds.
- Ability to tolerate varying temperatures working with refrigerated or frozen products.
- Operate box cutter and handcarts
- Hearing required to converse with customers and co-workers.
- Identify clearly bar codes, shelf tags, expiration dates, and product labels.
- Distinguish color for quality control; ability to smell product to identify spoilage.
- Peripheral vision and depth perception.
